Daniel Saunders died after being attacked near Turin Street in Ipswich

A 17-year-old boy has appeared in court accused of stabbing a man to death.

Daniel Saunders, 32, died just after 13:50 GMT on 16 December after being attacked near Turin Street in Ipswich.

The teenager, who cannot be named for legal reasons, has been charged with murder and possession of a machete in a public place.

Ipswich Crown Court remanded the boy, of Bury St Edmunds, in youth detention. He is due to appear at the same court for a plea hearing on 12 April.

Earlier, East Suffolk Magistrates' Court heard he was found in possession of a machete in Colchester Road in St Osyth, Essex, on 20 December.

Police were called to the Turin Street area of Ipswich at about 13:50 GMT on 16 December

Police have appealed for a woman who stopped to help Mr Saunders to come forward.

She is described as being in her 30s or 40s, speaking with a local accent and driving a people carrier with a sliding door.

A post-mortem examination concluded Mr Saunders, originally from Surrey, died from a single stab wound to the abdomen.

Six other people were arrested in connection with the murder inquiry.

Two men, aged 44 and 39, and a 31-year-old woman arrested on the day of the killing were told they will face no further action after answering bail on Friday.

An 18-year-old man and two teenage boys were arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender.

The man, from the Colchester area, is due to answer police bail on 18 January while a 17-year-old, also from the Colchester area, and a 15-year-old from Bury St Edmunds have been released under police investigation.
