Trains between London and Norfolk, Suffolk and Essex are severely disrupted due to "extensive damage" to overhead electric lines.

Greater Anglia said all lines were blocked due to damage to wires between Manningtree and Ipswich.

Services running through the stations may be cancelled, delayed or revised.

Greater Anglia said engineers were working to complete repairs "as quickly as possible" but disruption was expected until the end of the day.

A replacement bus service is in place between Colchester and Ipswich.

Extra trains had been added to the schedule for people wanting to travel to pay their respects to the Queen.

Anthony Patchett, who was heading from Ipswich to London to celebrate his 53rd birthday, said he thought it was "fantastic" that Greater Anglia had put on the extra services and the rail replacement bus service was "alright".

"We thought it would be nice to be among the people queuing up and take in all of the atmosphere," he said.

"Every 15 minutes Greater Anglia are putting on a rail replacement to Colchester so that's good and we'll carry on from Colchester."

Network Rail said: "We're still fixing the overhead wires between Ipswich and Manningtree and expect this to be completed by the end of the day.

"We're very sorry for the disruption to your journeys."

Jonathan Denby, from Greater Anglia, added: "If it can be done quicker, of course they will do that but the expectation is that it is going to affect services for the whole of the day.

"We are very much hoping that it will then be completed to ensure that we can have a normal service over the weekend and on Monday."
