A 61-year-old man has died in a crash between a motorbike and a lorry on the A14 near Ipswich.

Suffolk Police said it was called to the collision between junction 54 at Sproughton and junction 55 at the A12 Copdock Interchange at about 06:00 BST.

The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said the lorry driver, a man aged in his 30s, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and drug-driving.

He was taken to Martlesham Police Investigation Centre for questioning, where he remained, police said.

Police said the crash happened on the eastbound carriageway.

Both carriageways of the A14 were closed between Sproughton and the junction 53 Whitehouse interchange while an investigation took place and to allow for recovery of the vehicles, the force said.

The westbound carriageway reopened shortly after 08:00. One lane reopened on the eastbound carriageway shortly before 13:00 and was expected to fully reopen later on Wednesday, police added.

Officers appealed for witnesses to the collision.
