A man has died after a car overturned and then got hit by a lorry, police said.

Suffolk Police said the crash happened at about 22:00 GMT on Monday on the A140 at Wetheringsett, Suffolk.

It said the man, who was in a Ford Galaxy car, was taken to West Suffolk Hospital with serious injuries but later died.

Officers believe a second person in the car fled the scene. That person had not yet been found, the force added.

Police said it was thought the car had been travelling northbound when it overturned on to its roof.

The lorry, which was travelling southbound, then struck the overturned car as it passed.

Police said the road was closed overnight for investigation work and the recovery of the car, and reopened at 09:00.

Officers have appealed for witnesses.
