A man in his 50s has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving after a fatal crash involving three vehicles.

Suffolk Police said the collision happened on the A14 eastbound at Beyton, near Bury St Edmunds, at about 18:00 BST on Thursday.

The eastbound section was closed between junctions 43 and 46 for about 19 hours. It reopened at about 13:00.

The westbound section of the road reopened at about 06:15.

The driver of a van, 53, was pronounced dead at the scene, the force added.

The arrested man remained in police custody on Friday.

'Debris cleared'

The incident involved two lorries and a van, near roadworks, police said.

One of the lorry drivers was taken to West Suffolk Hospital as a precaution and the other driver was not injured.

Fire crews, paramedics and the air ambulance were also called to the dual carriageway on Thursday.

National Highways said collision investigations had been completed and the vehicles had been removed.

"The debris and spillages have been cleared from the carriageway", it added.

Police thanked motorists for their patience and asked anyone who may have seen anything to come forward, especially if they had dashcam footage.
