An already registered sex offender has been jailed for sexually assaulting an 11-year-old boy who he groomed online.

David Alexander Murphy, 40, drove to a Suffolk village to meet and abuse the boy in June 2021.

Detectives said he had a passport and bank card in the name of McClean and they seized two sim cards from him that were hidden in an Oxo cube box.

Murphy, of Cavendish Street, Derby, was sentenced at Derby Crown Court to 12 years and eight months in prison.

National Crime Agency (NCA) operations manager Danielle Pownall said his actions were "premeditated and devious".

The boy gave officers a description of Murphy and recalled that he drove a car with a logo on the side.

Officers were able to evidence this was hired from a car club that Murphy belonged to in Derby.

His unsupervised contact with the boy, as well as possessing devices capable of storing data and identification documents in a different name, breached the sexual harm prevention orders he received following offences committed in 2012 and 2017 - the NCA said.

Murphy pleaded guilty to inciting a boy under 13 to engage in sexual activity, meeting a boy under 16 following sexual grooming, three counts of breaching a sexual harm prevention order and three counts of failing to comply with the sex offenders' register requirements.

Ms Pownall said: "David Murphy took his time to groom a vulnerable child online and even offered money to meet him in person.

"I would like to thank the young boy abused by Murphy for his bravery in speaking to us and helping to put a dangerous criminal behind bars."
