Officers were called to the estate, on the former RAF Woodbridge site, on Sunday evening and remained there on Monday

A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after another man was found dead in a Suffolk village.

Police were called to Ipswich Avenue in Sutton Heath, near Woodbridge, just before 21:00 BST on Sunday, to reports of a stabbing outside a home.

The victim, a man aged 37, died at the scene, despite the best efforts of paramedics, said Suffolk Police.

A 42-year-old man was arrested at the scene and taken to Martlesham Police Investigation Centre for questioning.

Police inquiries were continuing in the area and part of the road was closed to traffic

Suffolk Police said it was an isolated incident and the victim and suspect were understood to have been known to each other.

The estate, on the former RAF Woodbridge airbase site, has a mix of civilian and military homes.

A section of Ipswich Avenue was closed from the junction with Easton Road as police inquiries continued.

Jim Wallace praised the speed with which the emergency services arrived

Resident Jim Wallace said: "My neighbour was involved in delivering CPR to the victim... a doctor from the barracks offered assistance and everyone on the street came out."

The Army's Rock Barracks is on the former airfield site.

Air ambulance and paramedic staff took over treatment on arrival, Mr Wallace added.

A neighbour, who did not want to be named, said it was a "shocking" incident in what they described as a usually quiet area.

Another heard screaming, went outside and said "it was chaotic - people started calling the police".

Another added: "We couldn't sleep all night because of police vans coming and going - I've never heard of such an incident happening around this area."

Police are appealing for witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage to get in touch if they were in the area prior to or just after 21:00 on Sunday.
