A man has been charged with murdering another man at a former RAF housing estate in Suffolk.

The 37-year-old victim died at the scene in Ipswich Avenue in Sutton Heath, near Woodbridge, just before 21:00 BST on Sunday.

A post-mortem examination gave the cause of death as stab wounds to the heart and left lung, Suffolk Constabulary said.

Jay Cotterill, 42, of Ipswich Avenue, has been charged with murder.

He was also charged with assault causing actual bodily harm in relation to an alleged female victim targeted during the same incident, police said.

Suffolk police appealed for anyone with information to come forward

Mr Cotterill is due to appear at Ipswich Magistrates' Court on Wednesday.

The estate, on the former RAF Woodbridge airbase site, has a mix of civilian and military homes, as well as being the home to the Army's Rock Barracks.

The police cordon at Ipswich Avenue and Easton Road has been reopened, although officers once again appealed for anyone with information about the incident to come forward.
