Sutton Heath: Inquest opens after man, 37, stabbed in heart

An inquest has been opened into the death of man who died after being stabbed.

Richard Hunt, 37, from Ipswich, died from stab wounds to the heart and lung in Ipswich Avenue, Sutton Heath, just before 21:00 BST on Sunday, Suffolk Constabulary said.

The inquest was suspended by coroner Nigel Parsley until June 2024.

Jay Cotterill, 42, from Ipswich Avenue, appeared in court on Wednesday charged with murder.

Mr Cotterill is also charged with assault causing actual bodily harm in relation to an alleged female victim targeted during the same incident.

He was remanded in custody until January and is due to stand trial in May 2024.

The Sutton Heath estate, on the former RAF Woodbridge airbase site, has a mix of civilian and military homes, as well as being the home to the Army's Rock Barracks.
