Bungay Halloween pumpkins used to spook speeding drivers
- Published
People in a market town in Suffolk are using rows of pumpkins to spook passing motorists into sticking to the speed limit.
Twenty pumpkins in Bridge Street, Bungay, have been carved with the number 20 as a topical reminder for drivers at Halloween.
Resident Janet Kirkley claimed her own data indicated 80% of passing motorists break the speed limit.
There is already a digital warning sign in the road.
"To draw attention to the 20mph limit (32.2kmh), we are carving twenty pumpkins with 20 and placing them in the street," said Ms Kirkley.
Bridge Street operates a one-way system along the entire road, from Trinity Street to Chicken Roundabout.
Ms Kirkley said residents had asked Suffolk County Council to reverse the one-way, believing that drivers would likely slow down if they had to drive up the hill - rather than down.
The council was asked for comment.
