Police officer hurt in suspected hit-and-run in Newmarket

A police officer has been injured in a suspected hit-and-run incident.

Suffolk Police said a vehicle hit the officer while she was walking on The Avenue in Newmarket, and then failed to stop.

It happened at about 02:45 GMT on Sunday. The officer was taken to hospital but her injuries are not described as life-changing or life-threatening.

Police are appealing for anyone with information to get in touch with them, external.

The vehicle is thought to have been light in colour and travelling from the High Street in Newmarket into The Avenue.

Police said they were "particularly keen" to hear from three people who were also walking along The Avenue at the time and are believed to have been witnesses.

Officers are also appealing for any relevant dashcam footage.
