Five teenagers have been sentenced for their part in a town centre fight.

Suffolk Police said it had reports of people "in possession of wooden sticks or bats" during an incident at the Old Cattle Market in Ipswich on 22 June.

Four 18-year-old men and a boy, 17, pleaded guilty to violent disorder and possession of an offensive weapon.

The males, from Ipswich, were sentenced at the town's crown court to between 18 and 24 months in custody and given Community Behaviour Orders (CBO).

  • Claudio Da Costa, 18, of Primrose Hill, and Daniel Guedes, 18, of Broomwade Close, were given 24-month custodial sentences at a young offender institution and five-year CBOs

  • Laurynas Talacka, 18, of Chevalier Street, who also admitted breaching a criminal behaviour order, received the same sentence

  • Alfie Pollard, 18, of Honeysuckle Gardens, Ipswich, who also pleaded guilty to possession of a Class B drug, was given a 21-month custodial sentence at a young offender institution and a three-year CBO

  • Andrius Budzius, 17, of Magdalene Close, Ipswich, was given an 18-month detention and training order and a three-year CBO

'Dangerous actions'

Speaking after Thursday's sentencing, Supt Andy Martin said: "This is another example of Suffolk Constabulary's zero-tolerance approach to violence in Ipswich town centre.

"Officers continue to patrol the streets and to investigate criminality and we will, wherever possible, look to prosecute those who attempt to bring their crime and anti-social behaviour on to our streets."

Det Con Jack Evans said: "We took this investigation very seriously and I'm pleased that the hard work of the staff and officers involved has resulted in those responsible being brought to justice for their dangerous actions."
