A teenager has been arrested after two nesting swans were attacked.

The incident took place off George Westwood Way in Beccles, Suffolk, on 13 November.

The 16-year-old was arrested on suspicion of injuring a Schedule 1 wild bird and on suspicion of causing criminal damage.

Police said: "A male used a pole to attack two nesting swans. Both creatures were distressed but uninjured."

Swans are protected under the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981, making it a criminal offence to disturb the birds in anyway or cause damage to their nests.

The teenager was taken to Great Yarmouth Police Investigation Centre for questioning, and has been released on bail pending further enquiries.
