Suffolk Police and Crime Commissioner Tim Passmore said drink and drug driving is "totally unacceptable"

Suffolk's emergency services have joined forces to launch a Christmas driving campaign.

The annual campaign highlights the dangers of driving while under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

Officers will complete roadside checks throughout the day and night, plus intelligence-led enforcement activity.

Tim Passmore, the Suffolk Police and Crime Commissioner, said: "Driving under the influence... is totally unacceptable."

The month-long initiative, with the message 'There's No Excuse', begins on 1 December and will run alongside a UK-wide operation organised by the National Police Chiefs' Council.

"We do this every year because we need to remind people coming up to the festive period that driving while under the influence of drink or drugs is totally unacceptable," said Mr Passmore.

During last year's festive campaign, which ran from 1 December 2022 to 1 January 2023, Suffolk police stopped 907 motorists and made 157 arrests.

Mr Passmore added: "Potentially, it has really, really tragic and serious consequences and people should not do it.

"We highlight it at this time of year because people like to go out and enjoy themselves, which is fine, but know your limits. Do not exceed the limit and always get a lift."
