Eight people and a kitten escape Brandon house fire

Pictures showed debris and smoke damage throughout the house

Eight people including children were able to safely escape from a fire that badly damaged a house.

Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service said smoke was billowing from the property in Gashouse Drove, Brandon, when crews arrived just after 04:30 GMT.

A Facebook post, external included pictures of extensive damage and a warning about the importance of smoke detectors.

The service said: "If this property did not have working smoke alarms, this could have been a very different post."

"Please remember to check your smoke alarms and keep safe," it added.

Four crews from Brandon, Mildenhall and Thetford were called to help extinguish the fire.

The service also said a kitten rescued from property by firefighters was "safe and well".
