A couple have praised their neighbours for helping them to save their home from flooding during Storm Henk.

Trevor and Louise Carr said there were "pretty bad" conditions in Stowmarket, Suffolk, and they were worried about their barn.

Mr Carr said after he saw a weather forecast, he set up a pump to remove water from near his home to a field.

After running it for about 90 minutes, neighbours came and helped him build defences to divert the water.

"Once the rain started coming heavily it was very quickly filling up, the whole ditch around here was filling up and it was beginning to breach over into the garden," Mr Carr said.

"The pump was pumping out into the field thousands of gallons, it was running for about an hour and a half without stopping.

"A farmer came along and helped me and we started to build some defences around here to divert water off the field and this lane here just turned into a river."

Louise added: "It was horrendous, I am out here in my pyjamas, we're shovelling water and we wouldn't of saved our property if it wasn't for the help of our local farmers and neighbours."
