Suffolk Police said the army was called in to remove the device before it was destroyed in a "controlled explosion"

A "controlled explosion" has been carried out by the Army after a shell was discovered in a car park.

The device was found in the car park at Alderton recreation ground on Monday, prompting Suffolk Police to install a cordon at about 17:30 GMT.

The force said that "army personnel" attended the scene and that the bomb was disposed of on Tuesday morning.

Officers confirmed that the cordon has now been lifted.
