Ipswich boxer's 'mad journey' to first professional fight

A woman believed to be on the cusp of becoming her town's first professional female boxer said it had been a "mad journey".

Eilish Tierney, 25, from Ipswich in Suffolk, took up boxing during lockdown in March 2021 and is getting ready for a fight at York Hall, London on 24 February.

Her gym claimed she would be the first female boxer from the town to take part in a professional match.

She said: "To be the first from Ipswich is an honour. It's been a mad journey and we're just seeing where it goes."
