Man in critical condition after assault in Ipswich town centre

Suffolk Police said it believed the attack happened on Dogs Head Street

A man is in a critical condition with serious head injuries after a town centre assault.

Suffolk Police was called to reports of an injured man on Dogs Head Street, Ipswich, outside the Plough pub at 04:13 GMT.

The force said it believed the man, aged in his 40s, was attacked in the street.

A 35-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm.

Part of the road has been cordoned off while police investigate.

Officers are appealing for anyone who was in the area between 03:45 and 04:45, or who has information, to contact them.

Some Ipswich Buses services were temporarily disrupted due to Old Cattle Market Bus Station being closed, but it has since reopened.
