An annual fireworks event has been cancelled due to "financial pressures".

The Big Night Out, held in Long Melford in Suffolk, was expected to take place as normal in November.

However, organiser Project Seven said it was "with deep regret" it had to cancel the event due to "financial pressures and other demands".

Project Seven said the only way the occassion could continue was if a sponsor was found.

In as statement the group said it had raised about £800,000 during the past half century.

"Project Seven has been associated with this event for over 50 years and has distributed predominantly to local good causes and organisations.

"We will continue supporting local events with our food unit and are also actively looking for other events to expand this side of our fundraising.

"Thank you everyone for your support to the Big Night Out over the years."

The Big Night Out was cancelled in 2022 after three suspected mortar bombs were found in the grounds of Melford Hall where the event was due to take place.

Last year the event relocated to the Kentwell Hall Estate, just across the road from Melford Hall.
