Plans for £50m new home scheme in Surrey approved

Existing properties will be demolished and 304 homes built under the plans
Plans to build more than 300 new homes in Surrey as part of a £50m regeneration scheme have been given the go-ahead by Spelthorne council.
Planning councillors have approved the Stanwell New Start scheme and the proposal now needs government approval.
Councillor Richard Smith-Ainsley, planning spokesman, said it was another step forward to regenerate Stanwell.
The plans for 304 homes include 260 properties for affordable rent, shared ownership, and private sale.
Landscaped open space
The scheme also includes an extra care scheme providing 44 accommodation units for older people with care and support needs.
A community centre, parking and landscaped open space are also planned.
Mr Smith-Ainsley said it provided 21st Century accommodation for people in the area.
He added there was still "some way to go" and work would continue to ensure the local community continued to be involved in the project.
Developer A2Dominion has been given outline planning permission for the project which will see 152 existing homes in the site demolished.
The first phase of the Stanwell New Start scheme, to build 52 new homes in the Long Lane area, began in February.
The planned 304 new homes for phases two, three and four of the regeneration scheme are to built in the area of Explorer Avenue, Holywell Way, Long Lane and Mulberry Avenue.
