Exhibition of Deepcut housing plan postponed

An exhibition of the plans to build more than 1,000 homes on the site of the controversial Deepcut barracks has been rescheduled.

Surrey Heath Borough Council said residents wanting to see detailed plans can now do so at Deepcut Village Centre on 6 January.

The land at Princess Royal Barracks will be sold off by the Ministry of Defence when the Army leaves in 2013.

The public exhibition was postponed due to last week's heavy snowfall.

Four soldiers died in shooting incidents at the barracks between 1995 and 2002.

Ptes Geoff Gray, of Seaham, Co Durham, Sean Benton, 20, of Hastings, East Sussex, James Collinson, 17, of Perth, and Cheryl James, 18, of Llangollen, Denbighshire, all died of bullet wounds in separate incidents at the training base.

Inquests into the deaths recorded a verdict of suicide in Pte Benton's case and open verdicts for the other three.
