Surrey drivers urged to give up bad habits for new year

Bad driving habits seen in Surrey included using a mobile phone behind the wheel
Motorists have been caught shaving, applying make-up and even changing clothes behind the wheel on roads in Surrey, the county council has said.
The council and police are urging drivers to start the new year by resolving to abandon "crazy antics".
Other bad driving habits more commonly seen in Surrey include texting, drinking and driving and tailgating.
Council leader Dr Andrew Povey said anti-social driving was dangerous and could lead to injury or death.
The examples of reckless driving were uncovered during the Drive SMART road safety campaign which started in Surrey in September 2009.
It was originally a one-year campaign, but proved such a success it was extended for another 12 months, Dr Povey said.
The council said 594 people had been killed or seriously injured in Surrey from September 2008 to August 2009, compared with 514 in the first 12 months of the Drive SMART campaign.
During the first year, police dealt with bad driving more than 47,000 times and took actions ranging from issuing advice to handing out penalties.
