A total of 164 firms in Surrey have struck deals linked to the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

They include security and construction firms, management consultants and caterers working on projects including the Olympic Stadium and velodrome.

Surrey County Council said the businesses had won almost £740m worth of contracts - about 90% of all those secured across the South East.

Councillor Denise Saliagopoulos said there were still contracts to be won.

She said: "There are still hundreds of millions of pounds worth of deals to be done and I would urge Surrey companies who aren't yet involved to find out how they can benefit.

"In the coming months there will be a demand for businesses to provide an assortment of goods and services from flowers to catering equipment, curtains and even dental equipment."

Surrey County Council said an estimated £1bn was likely to be generated by the games for the South East economy.
