Members of the public have come up with a name for a new entertainment venue in Guildford.

The borough council said the £26m venue will be known as G Live when it opens in the autumn.

Council leader Tony Rooth said it was a "contemporary, forward looking name", which reflects "the fantastic state-of-the-art building".

G Live will host a programme of entertainment including all types of music, comedy and family shows.

It is being built on the site of the old Civic, which has been empty since 2004.

The venue includes a 1,700-capacity auditorium, a 150-capacity studio theatre and conference rooms.
