Broadband internet coverage 'too patchy' across Surrey

A survey of internet coverage is being carried out as a local authority attempts to ensure the whole of Surrey receives broadband by 2013.

The leader of Surrey County Council, Andrew Povey, said the survey would help identify areas with poor access.

"There are still people in Surrey who cannot receive a broadband service, or if they can, it is patchy," he said.

The questionnaire is being filled in by residents from the county's 84 parish and town councils.

The survey is being carried out by the Surrey Strategic Partnership, an umbrella group of public services chaired by Dr Povey.

"The internet is central to our daily lives. Everyone should have access to decent broadband.

"Faster broadband access is vital to keep Surrey's economy moving," he said.
