Surrey towns plan for 'revolutionised' transport system

Six Surrey towns could see their transport system "revolutionised" if a £16m proposal to the government gets the go ahead.
The bid, called Surrey Travel Smart, submitted by Surrey County Council (SCC) is for Guildford, Woking, Redhill, Camberley, Egham and Epsom.
If successful, new park-and-ride bus services and electric cars and charging points will be introduced.
There will also be improvements to bus routes and services and cycle paths.
"The way we travel has a huge impact on our quality of life, the economy and the environment, which is why the county council is determined to explore opportunities to make improvements in Surrey," said SCC cabinet member Ian Lake.
"If we are successful in this bid for funding, the money will be used to make journeys safer and easier, particularly those linking different forms of transport."
Earlier this year SCC submitted a related bid for £5m for transport improvements in Guildford and Woking.
