Surrey music festival Guilfest sees 36 drugs arrests

Thirty six people were arrested for possession and supply of Class A and B drugs at a Surrey music festival, police have revealed.

Ecstasy, cocaine, methadone and cannabis were seized at Guilfest, which took place over the weekend.

Insp Alan Sproston, from Surrey Police, said there were also several thefts, an incident of drunk and disorderly behaviour, and seven assaults.

Two incidents of criminal damage were also reported.

Out of the 36 people arrested over drugs incidents, six were arrested on suspicion of supplying drugs or being involved in supplying drugs, 15 were arrested for possession, and three were arrested for possession of Class A drugs with intent to supply.

Police said 11 people were also arrested for producing a controlled drug, and one was arrested for possession of a Class B drug with intent to supply.

Two people were bailed and several people received fixed penalty notices or cautions.

Thefts included reports of people stealing personal property including mobile phones, cash and sleeping bags.

Insp Sproston said: "There were a number of drug-related arrests but these demonstrate our commitment to cracking down on all drugs at the festival.

"We ran operations using the passive drugs dogs during the three days and often just the sight of these dogs is enough to make people hand their drugs over."
