Electoral boundaries in Surrey could change

Electoral boundaries could change in Surrey under plans that would see the county gain an extra councillor.

The Local Government Boundary Commission (LGBC) has started a 12-week public consultation that is open to anyone who wants to have their say.

LGBC chairman Max Caller said changes would ensure each member represented a similar number of people so everyone's vote was worth "roughly the same".

After consultation, the LGBC will make recommendations to the county council.

Mr Caller said people should consider whether the new divisions reflect Surrey's natural communities, whether they changes would help the council deliver effective local government, and whether the plans ensured electoral equality for voters.

Surrey currently has 80 councillors and would have 81 under the new system.
