Thorpe Park meets neighbours over extension to opening hours

Surrey theme park bosses wanting to extend the opening hours of one of their entertainment venues have invited residents to discuss their concerns.

The owners of Thorpe Park want to open the Dome until 03:30 for music events. It currently has a licence until 02:00.

Residents say they already have to put up with too much noise from the attraction, near Chertsey.

A Thorpe Park spokesman said the venue would only be used on selected nights.

'Louder and later'

"We want our guests to have the best possible experience, but we also want to ensure our neighbours can enjoy the peace and quiet of their homes," he said.

Reg Seals, who lives in nearby Penton Park, has gathered 200 signatures on a petition against the plans.

He said: "During the day, the noise coming from Thorpe Park is extreme. It's as though it's in your back garden.

"As the years have gone on they've put more rides in and the noise has got louder and later."

A final decision will be made by Runnymede Borough Council over the coming months.
