Stanwell arrest: Man 'in critical condition'

A 33-year-old man is in a critical condition after he became ill in police custody.

The man was detained under the Mental Health Act at an address in Vanguard House, Douglas Road, Stanwell at about 22:00 GMT on Tuesday.

The ambulance service called Surrey Police and the man was arrested and taken to Staines police station.

His health deteriorated after his arrest on suspicion of drug related offences and he was taken to hospital.

A police spokesman said: "The man remains in a life-threatening condition."

The Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) is investigating.
