Derek Abbott was found in a "distressed state"

Surrey Police have appealed for information about a man who died after being found on a street with a head injury and without his bike.

Derek Abbott, 67, was discovered on 20 June next to a house in White Rose Lane, Woking, in a distressed state.

He was taken to hospital but died of a head injury.

Officers said they have now discovered that Mr Abbott was cycling prior to being found, however, his old blue Raleigh bike was not with him.

Sgt Eddie Ryan, from Surrey Police, said: "We are keeping an open mind at this stage and trying to figure out how Mr Abbott died.

"All we have is the results of the post mortem which showed that he died from a head injury and we are trying to establish how he sustained this injury.

"We know he had cycled to Woking prior to being found and taken to hospital but his bike has never been found."
