Work on the first new council homes to be built in 25 years in a part of Surrey has begun.

Tandridge District Council said it is building homes in Caterham and Oxted after receiving money from the sale of homes through the Right to Buy scheme.

The council is building five three-bed homes and four two-bed homes.

Councillor Simon Ainsworth said: "For the first time in a quarter of a century, restrictions have been lifted and we can now increase our stock."

The homes are expected be ready in summer 2016.
