RHS Wisley officials have apologised for the inconvenience after cancelling the Festival of Flavours

A food festival near Woking has been cancelled ahead of the partial closure of the A3.

The motorway will shut temporarily while work on Junction 10 to build the new Wisley Lane bridge is carried out.

National Highways said the £317m upgrade will cut congestion and create smoother traffic flow.

But organisers of the Festival of Flavours at RHS Wisley have apologised for cancelling the event from October 11 to 15 due to the impending works.

Laura Booty, head of RHS Wisley, said: "We appreciate how disappointed everyone is with this decision, which is unfortunately beyond our control.

"Members and people who had booked have already been informed. Anyone who had bought a ticket can use it for garden entry for the following three months from the date of booking, or refunds are available by contacting RHS Wisley."

The roadworks will start on Friday 13 October, leading to the road being shut from 21:00 BST until 06:00 BST on Monday 16 October.

The upgrade to the junction will involve lifting beams - measuring 33m and weighing 80 tonnes - into place.

These will support the new road deck on the Wisley Lane flyover and provide safer access to Wisley Lane and RHS Wisley from the A3.

A 750-tonne crane will be used as part of the project, along with 10 giant precast concrete beams that will form the basis of the new flyover.

Highways officials say the upgraded structure will provide safer access onto Wisley Lane and RHS Wisley from the A3, including a route for pedestrians, horses and cyclists.
