A stretch of the M3 in Surrey will close this weekend as a footbridge is demolished.

The motorway between junctions 3 and 4 will be closed in both directions from 21:00 GMT Friday to 06:00 on Monday.

The pedestrian bridge over the M3 between Bagshot and Lightwater Country Park is to be demolished.

National Highways said the footbridge was closed in October "following urgent safety concerns as a result of a structural survey".

The survey found that the footbridge was at risk of tall vehicles hitting it.

National Highways said there are plans to replace the footbridge with a new structure which is "designed to accommodate pedestrians and cyclists, providing better connectivity".

The work may not be completed until Autumn 2025.
