Charges could increase in car parks owned by Surrey Heath Borough Council

Parking charges could rise in an area of Surrey following a public consultation.

Surrey Heath Borough Council set up a survey to get residents' views on the 17 car parks the authority owns, including whether people would be willing to pay more "if it meant improved facilities and services".

Councillor Helen Whitcroft said part of the survey was to understand possible improvements for residents.

The consultation ends on 14 January.

Ms Whitcroft, portfolio holder for resident and community services, said: "The council recognises that having suitable, safe and accessible places to park our vehicles is a necessary requirement for many of us."

She added having areas to store bicycles and charges for electric vehicles was also becoming "increasingly needed", according to the Local Democracy Reporting Service.
