About 900 properties in Surrey were without power on Monday morning as the county dealt with the effects of Storm Isha, BBC Radio Surrey reported.

Power companies say they hope to restore energy supplies in the Dorking area "by lunchtime".

Affected areas include Brockham, Betchworth, Capel, Wrecclesham, Lingfield, Ewhurst and Elstead.

Train and bus passengers are also facing disruptions because of fallen trees.

UK Power Networks estimated about 2,000 customers had been affected by loss of electricity supplies across south-east England.

Across Surrey, Sussex and Kent some of the areas affected by power outages include Redhill, Guildford, Steyning. Tunbridge Wells, Canterbury, Medway and Dartford.

In some areas residents and businesses have been warned they may have to wait until 17:30 GMT until power supplies can be restored.

The Met Office said gusts of up to 99mph (159kmh) were recorded in Northumberland.
