The aftermath of Storm Henk has been "really challenging and upsetting", according to Surrey County Council

Surrey property owners affected by flooding following Storm Henk could be eligible for government funding.

More than 100 homes, businesses and farms are known to have been affected by flooding in the county.

The funding is to be used in "exceptional circumstances" to support councils and communities following severe water damage.

Grants ranging in value from £500 to £25,000, will be administered through district or borough councils.

Storm Henk swept across the county on 2 January, leaving damage to buildings and infrastructure in its wake.

Marisa Heath, Surrey County Council's cabinet member for environment, encouraged residents to apply for the money, external and said work was being done on flood alleviation schemes across the county.

"It's been a really challenging and upsetting time for our communities who have witnessed first-hand the impacts of flooding," she said.

Householders can apply for £500 for immediate costs if flood water entered habitable areas of a property or it has been deemed unliveable by the local authority.

Residents can also apply for £5,000 to make their homes or businesses more resilient to future flooding.

Business owners can apply for £2,500, and farmers who have suffered "uninsurable damage" can apply for up to £25,000.
