An appeal has been launched after a boy was seen dragging a goose from a Surrey pond and kicking it in the head.

The Canada goose was left with head injuries following the attack opposite the village green in Wood Street Village, near Guildford, on 22 January.

Four white males aged about 15 were seen near the pond with one spotted harming the goose.

The goose was seen bleeding from a wound and struggling to stand.

The animal has not been seen in the area since.

RSPCA inspector Louis Horton said: "This was a very distressing incident for the person who called us."

Surrey Police said a report was taken and witnesses were spoken to but there were no further lines of inquiry at that stage, so the report was closed.

The area will be monitored going forward, police added.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the RSPCA.
