The council estimate the bookings will boost the local economy by £1m

Eastbourne's economy is set to get an estimated £1m boost after the organisers of three conferences decided to base their events in the town.

Eastbourne Borough Council said the events at the Devonshire Park Centre would bring more than 1,800 delegates into the town.

The conferences, which include a Southern Railway event, will take place over the next two years.

A council spokeswoman said it was a real boost for the town.

"We are extremely pleased to secure these new conferences for Eastbourne and continue to attract big names to use the Devonshire Park Centre for their events.

"We already have a packed calendar of conferences taking place in Eastbourne, including the Royal British Legion Women's Section who will celebrate their 90th anniversary year at their Eastbourne event later this summer, and these new bookings come as a further boost to the local economy," the spokeswoman added.
