Man injured tombstoning from Brighton Pier

A man in his 20s has been injured while "tombstoning" into the sea from Brighton Pier.

The man, from London, jumped about 30ft (10m) into just 3ft (1m) of water at about 1830 BST on Saturday, when the sea was at low tide.

The RNLI Brighton lifeboat crew and three council lifeguards helped him ashore using a basket stretcher.

He was taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital, in Brighton, and treated for bruising and minor injuries.

Tombstoning is where people jump from cliffs or high structures into water.
