Brighton's drug problem debated

The city with the highest proportion of drug-related deaths in the UK is hosting a meeting to explore ways of tackling the problem.

Brighton Pavilion MP Caroline Lucas, who has called the meeting, said it was time to develop an "alternative approach".

The conference brings together medical experts, academics, Sussex Police and council officers.

Ms Lucas said tackling Brighton's drugs problem was her "top priority".

She said: "We need to recognise the reality that the so-called war on drugs has failed and start dealing with drugs differently."
