Thousands of runners including DJ Norman Cook and glamour model Katie Price took part in the annual Brighton half marathon.
Nearly 7,500 people participated in the race which goes past Brighton Pier, the West Pier and Royal Pavilion.
The Sussex Beacon, which organises the event, said it had increased the number of entry places for 2012 because it was an Olympic year.
Funds raised go towards the charity's care centre for people with HIV.
It hopes to raise about £50,000 from the half marathon, which was first held in the city in 1991.
'My knees went'
The organisers said DJ Norman Cook, aka Fatboy Slim, completed the race in a personal best time of two hours and seven minutes.
Katie Price ran the half marathon with her brother Dan in aid of Vision Charity, which helps blind, visually impaired and dyslexic children.
Following the race, she tweeted: "I finished Brighton half marathon 2hrs34mins, sooo gutted both my knees went so I struggled but thinking of Vision Charity got me through xx."
A spokeswoman for The Sussex Beacon said Matthew Dumigan, of Swansea Harriers, crossed the finish line with a time of 1hr 10 minutes and 22 seconds.
