Plans for 20mph speed limited across all areas of Lewes

A 20mph speed limit could be brought in across all residential areas of Lewes, apart from the main routes, if plans get council backing.

Proposals for a reduced speed limit by Councillor Sarah Osbourne are being put to Lewes District Council.

If the council back the plans, it will then put them to East Sussex County Council, which has the final say.

Ms Osbourne said: "It dramatically reduces the killed and seriously injured and the volume of incidents."

She added: "It also improves our lives - it has health benefits because more people walk and cycle, you get less congestion and noise pollution and better air quality."

Elsewhere in Sussex, a consultation is currently taking place to implement a 20mph speed restriction across Brighton & Hove.
