A hit-and-run driver who left a woman in the road with life-threatening injuries has admitted a string of offences at Brighton Crown Court.

Christopher Chan, 31, of no fixed abode, hit Michelle Greest in a stolen car used to carry out a ramraid on a Brighton shop in July, police said.

The 28-year-old Hove woman had blood clots removed from her brain and suffered serious leg injuries.

Chan admitted 13 charges and will be sentenced on Monday, court staff said.

Victim's relief

Ms Greest was struck by the stolen VW Passat Estate as she crossed Kings Road on 15 July after a night out with friends in Brighton.

Her injuries included fractures to her legs, hips and vertebrae and two blood clots on her brain.

Unemployed Chan had used the car in a ramraid on a flooring shop in Trafalgar Road, Portslade, 15 minutes earlier, Sussex Police said.

He admitted offences including failing to stop at the scene of an accident, failing to report an accident, driving without insurance, driving while disqualified, aggravated vehicle taking, and burglary.

After the hearing, Ms Greest said she was relieved that Chan had pleaded guilty and saved her the stress of a trial.
