Hundreds of students, staff and their supporters have taken part in a protest over the proposed outsourcing of support services at the University of Sussex.

The demonstration, which started as a sit-in over proposals to outsource 235 campus jobs more than six weeks ago, saw students bussed in from other universities to join the protest.

Unions and politicians, including Green Party MP Caroline Lucas and Labour MP Katy Clark, were among those lending their support.

The protesters, who said their demonstration had gone from "strength to strength", marched around the Falmer Campus.

Police moved in when a group went into a building on the site and scuffles broke out.

A Sussex Police spokesman said no arrests had been made and added that there had been no injuries.
