The plan is to turn Harveys Depot into a community cinema and restaurant

A former brewery warehouse in East Sussex could become a four-screen community cinema.

Harveys Brewers said the company had agreed to sell its depot site in Pinwell Road, Lewes to a new charitable trust which would run the cinema.

Under the plans, the external walls of the old office and warehouse building would be retained, with the interior completely refurbished.

A formal application is to be submitted to Lewes District Council in May.

The intention is that the building, to be called the Depot Cinema, will also house a restaurant.

The charity, Lewes Community Screen, wants to show mainstream films and art movies as well as events, exhibitions and festivals celebrating local film-makers.
