Nellie Herriot: Chances of finding missing woman 'slim'

The likelihood of finding a 96-year-old woman with Alzheimer's who has been missing for a year is "incredibly slim", police say.

Nellie Herriot, from Brighton, was last seen getting off a bus in the Whitehawk area of the city on 24 April 2012.

Police used specialist search teams and investigated scores of sightings, but scaled back the hunt in June.

She is described as white, of thin build, 4ft 9in tall, and with short curly hair.

Det Sgt Suzy Maclintock, from Sussex Police said: "Sadly, there have been no new lines of inquiry and [Nellie's] whereabouts remains a mystery.

"The likelihood of her being found safe and well is incredibly slim due to her age and health and the length of time that she has been missing."

Police said her bus pass had been found in her flat, but it was not known whether she had any money with her.

In October, Ms Herriot's family put together a website with a selection of photographs taken throughout her life in the hope new information would surface.

Police added the case will be reviewed every six months and any new lines of inquiry will be investigated.
