£250,000 given to help child abuse victims in Sussex

Child victims of serious sexual assault and domestic abuse will be helped by £250,000 extra funding, Sussex's police and crime commissioner has said.

Katy Bourne, who secured the money from the Ministry of Justice, said there was currently not enough support.

Some of the money will go towards funding more posts in the Sexual Assault Referral Centre in Crawley.

Ms Bourne said there was "nothing more harrowing" than knowing children were being sexually abused in Sussex.

"The two key services in Sussex that will be receiving extra funding are child independent sexual violence advisors and child independent domestic violence advisors," she said.

"The vital work of the advocates from both of these services is nationally recognised by partners including the police."
