Models of three sculptures that will go on display on a new plinth on Hove seafront have been unveiled.

The three designs were selected from a shortlist of 10 by an expert panel after a public vote earlier this year.

One sculpture at a time will be displayed from 2017 for about a year each on the plinth on King's Esplanade, opposite the statue of Queen Victoria.

The plinth, at the south end of Grand Avenue, is the brainchild of Hove Civic Society and will cost about £50,000.

The society plans to fund it from donations by the public and local businesses.

The three sculptures, external are Escape by Matthew James Davis, Flight of the Langoustines by Pierre Diamantopoulo and Constellation by Jonathan Wright.

Each sculptor has been given £2,500 to prepare the small-scale models which will be used to promote fundraising for the full-size artworks.

They were unveiled at Brighton Town Hall.

About 1,450 people cast votes for their favourite sculpture after the proposals went on display at Jubilee Library in June.

Karin Janzon, lead project manager for the Hove Plinth, said each sculpture would eventually be found a permanent space in Brighton and Hove.

"They won't disappear but they will become part of a sculptural heritage," she said.
